5 Fitness Apps WIT Can’t Live Without

If there’s one thing we know for sure right now, it’s that during this period of isolation, our screen time will be soaring. We miss our team WOD’s and partner workouts as much as you do, but we’ve sussed a few tricks that are keeping Team WIT on track with their training and fitness.

From pocket personal trainers, to virtual competitive CrossFit, here are five fitness apps you can rely on to keep you motivated, accountable and perhaps, even fitter than ever...

GOWOD

What is it?

GOWOD is a mobile app that allows you to test and improve your mobility and flexibility, in a totally innovative way, especially adapted for the practice of CrossFit®.

Why do you need it?

With GOWOD, you can test your mobility and retest it 30 days later to see your progress. A great tool to keep you accountable and on track with your mobility progress.

The first mobility test is FREE – allowing you to get a better understanding of your body’s range in movement. It’s available on the GOWOD app once you’ve created an account, only using your email address. The test takes 10 - 15 minutes to complete and all you need is a floor and a bank card or similar sized card, to take measurements in two of the tests. You can retest each month to track your progress. The test takes both your flexibility AND mobility into account. Your test results will then be given as an overall score, as well as 5 specific scores: Shoulder, Overhead, Hips, Posterior Chain and Ankles. The weakness which will most benefit from improvement is automatically set up in your profile. The app’s algorithm takes into account not only the score but also the benefits that can be brought to the areas most commonly injured while practicing CrossFit®. It’s that simple!

FIIT

What is it?

Fiit is a fitness app that enables its members to work out with some of the most in demand personal trainers, anytime they want and wherever they want. With unlimited access to classes, including HIIT, combat cardio, weight training, yoga and Pilates, members can train in real time with the likes of Adidas ambassador Adrienne Herbert, Nike ambassadors Steph Elswood and Courtney Fearon and celebrity trainer, Tyronne Brennand.

Members can choose to take classes on demand or follow structured training plans to achieve specific goals — such as the Abs & Glutes for strength and definition, or the 6-week Total Burn to lose weight and improve cardio fitness. With entry level to advanced workouts, members can continue to level up and track their progress as they go.

Why do you need it?

73% of people fail to stick to exercise goals. Motivation is the biggest barrier to fitness but Fiit  believe they've found the formula to making exercise addictive… “We know that seeing your live stats while you train pushes you to work out harder and more often,” says Gede Foster, Head of Fitness at Fiit. “When you wear the Fiit device, an accelerometer worn around the chest, you can track your heart rate, calories burned and reps — or if you have an Apple Watch, you can monitor your stats with that. The app stores your personal bests so you can challenge yourself to beat your score each time, and see how much you’ve improved.”

WHOOP

What is it?

WHOOP is the ultimate fitness tracker and sleep monitor. It provides personalized insights and actionable feedback to help members improve fitness, recover better, and get more sleep. It calculates your recovery based on 3 physiological markers: Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Resting Heart Rate (RHR), and sleep.

The Whoop Strap measures your strain (energy expenditure) and sleep, therefore enabling the possibility to calculate recovery required for optimal performance.

Why do you need it?

Recovery isn't just about how you feel, it's about what's happening to your body as it adapts to training and other stressors. Have you ever noticed that you feel great one day, but your performance is weak? WHOOP takes the guesswork out by giving you quantified recovery metrics, so you make informed training decisions each day. WHOOP is the first system to automatically track the body’s unique physiological state to determine personal readiness to perform each day. Arguably, it is the gold-standard of wearable sleep tracking and measures not only how long one sleeps, but the time spent in each stage to better understand sleep quality. These metrics are all calibrated to a personal baseline and data is distilled down into a strain score so members know how much cardiovascular load to take on to maximize their gains. By wearing WHOOP 24/7, users get feedback on every moment of the day, whether they’re exercising, resting, or going about daily life. Members are able to balance recovery, strain, and sleep to train optimally and unlock the secrets to their body’s true potential.
